Ukraine is among the TOP-5 countries in the world with the largest share of agricultural land
The share of land suitable for agriculture in relation to the total territory of Ukraine is about 56.8%.
Moldova has the same indicator. In the world ranking, the countries are in third (Moldova) and fourth (Ukraine) places according to this indicator.
Only Denmark (59.1%) and Bangladesh (60.2%) have a higher rating.
At the same time, the average global level of land distribution among modern countries is 14.3%, according to a study by the World Bank, which is based on data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Denys Bashlyk stated that in Ukraine about 4 million hectares of land are cultivated outside the legal field, and this causes losses to the state in the amount of tens of billions of hryvnias every year.
In early August, it was reported that over UAH 1 billion was paid for the use of state agricultural lands within the framework of the Land Bank project – these funds were paid by farmers who received plots for sublease through open online auctions in the Prozorro.Sales system.
It also became known that since the opening of the land market in Ukraine in July 2021, as of July 2025, 339,644 agreements for the purchase and sale of agricultural lands with an area of 636 thousand hectares were concluded for a total amount of UAH 30.4 billion.
