Ukraine investigates possible restrictions on temporary grain storage in Poland
Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is investigating reports that Polish customs authorities may be restricting the use of bonded warehouses and silos for temporary storage of Ukrainian grain transiting Poland to third countries.
The ministry is assessing whether such restrictions are systematic and which facilities may be affected. Imports of certain Ukrainian agricultural products into Poland remain banned, while transit through the country is still permitted.
The Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce has proposed allowing Ukrainian grain to be temporarily stored in bonded warehouses under continuous customs control, without being released for free circulation in Poland and with onward transit guaranteed.
Such warehouses and silos are important for Ukrainian export logistics. They act as a buffer when grain is transferred from broad-gauge railcars to European-gauge wagons, helping synchronize arrivals, transshipment and onward dispatch.
The ministry is discussing the issue with Ukrainian market participants and the Polish side. It stresses that maintaining stable transit routes is especially important amid heavy pressure on Ukraine’s port and rail logistics.
