Ukraine has completed the sowing of sugar beets and set a new record in terms of area
Ukrainian agricultural producers have completed the sugar beet sowing campaign.
According to the National Agricultural Agricultural Association “Ukrsugar”, the sowing area amounted to 162.1 thousand hectares, which is 18% less than last year and is the lowest figure in the history of independent Ukraine.
“The leader in terms of sowing area remains Vinnytsia region, where 31.2 thousand hectares were allocated for sweet roots this year,” the association added.
The head of the “Ukrsugar” association, Yana Kavushevska, explained that this year’s sowing of sugar beet has become one of the most difficult in the last few years.
“The weather made us quite nervous: frosts, dust storms, reseeding of about 5% of the area. But despite all these challenges, the sowing is complete,” she wrote on Facebook.
And she added that this year’s record-breaking area is a reflection of the extremely difficult conditions — both in the country and in the world — in which Ukraine’s sugar industry has to operate today.
“We hope that the weather will continue to be more favorable, and the work of farmers will be adequately rewarded with a good harvest and fair prices for their products,” Kavushevska noted.
