Ukraine has already harvested half of the early grain crops
This year’s harvest of early crops will reach about 27 million tons. This was announced by Taras Vysotskyi, Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, during a telethon.
“The equator for harvesting early grains has been passed. There are some adjustments in the regions – in the southeastern regions the yield decreased slightly due to the heat, while in the western regions it was higher than expected. The results for early grain crops are in line with the forecast, and we are grateful to farmers for their work,” said Vysotsky.
He added that, according to preliminary estimates, the export potential of grain crops in this marketing year is expected to be in the range of 40-43 million tons.
At the same time, there are a number of product groups for which the EU may impose restrictions. For example, the level of duty on sugar exports exceeds 400 euros per ton, which does not allow it to be competitive in the European market. For honey producers, this trend is also negative, although it allows them to be competitive.
However, as Vysotsky emphasized, any quotas and restrictions lead to a decrease in the profits of Ukrainian farmers.
As reported, at the end of June, farmers in six regions began harvesting early grains and legumes of the new harvest.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy predicts that this year Ukraine will harvest about 56 million tons of grain crops. Of these, 21 million tons of wheat, about 5 million tons of barley, and 28.5 million tons of corn.
In 2023, about 82 million tons of crops will be harvested, including more than 60 million tons of grains and about 22 million tons of oilseeds.
