Ukraine: growing share of refined SFO in the total exports, MY 2021/22

Amid the war, sunflower oil exports in MY 2021/22 were down 14% y/y. The export of refined sunoil increased by 3.6%.
The oil and fat industry of Ukraine was forced to partially reorient from the export of crude sunflower oil to a refined product under the influence of a combination of factors. The share of refined oil exports in total oil exports reached a record value and exceeded 11%.
The list of top SFO exporters changed due to the military factor. The location of the crushing plant in Ukraine has become of key importance for its activity.
There were changes in the structure of export geography in favor of EU countries, while it was possible to preserve almost all sales markets.
According to forecasts, Ukraine’s sunflower production in 2022 is expected to fall by more than 30%. According to UkrAgroConsult analysts’ forecasts, the export of refined sunflower oil will not be lower than the previous season.
