Ukraine begins harvesting late crops

Ukrainian farmers had harvested 31.94 mln tons of grains and pulses from 6.82 mln ha, or 58% of the projected area, as of September 1. The average yield stands at 4.68 t/ha, according to Ukraine’s Agriculture Ministry.

The wheat harvest is nearly complete, with 98% of the area, or 5.04 mln ha, harvested. Production reached 24.76 mln tons with an average yield of 4.92 t/ha. Barley has already been harvested from all planned areas, producing 6.37 mln tons at 4.32 t/ha. Farmers have also harvested 790 thsd tons of peas.

Odesa region leads in total grain production with 4.82 mln tons, followed by Dnipropetrovsk region with 2.66 mln tons and Kirovohrad region with 2.42 mln tons. The highest average grain yields have been recorded in Khmelnytskyi region at 7.08 t/ha, Sumy region at 6.01 t/ha and Vinnytsia region at 5.97 t/ha.

The rapeseed harvest is also nearly complete. Farmers harvested 3.79 mln tons from 1.33 mln ha, or 99% of the projected area, with an average yield of 2.86 t/ha. Meanwhile, buckwheat harvesting has started in several regions, with 3 thsd tons collected so far.

Ukraine has also started harvesting late crops. The first 0.38 thsd ha of corn yielded around 0.7 thsd tons at 1.79 t/ha. Sunflower seed has been harvested from 9.2 thsd ha, producing 10.9 thsd tons at an average yield of 1.18 t/ha.
