Ukraine approves the procedure for GM registration

On May 21, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a package of bylaws defining the procedure for state registration and termination of registration of genetically modified organisms (GM). The new regulations provide for detailed requirements for applications, the procedure for considering objections, and the forms of documents required for registration.

All the innovations will come into force in September 2026, simultaneously with the law “On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities”. At the same time, the current government regulations of 2009 and 2010, which previously regulated the testing and registration of GM, will be canceled. The new approach should ensure transparency, legal certainty and control over the circulation of GM in Ukraine
