October 16, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov had a meeting with Türkiye’s Defense Minister Hulusi Akar at the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul.

The negotiations are aimed at the implementation of the Grain Initiative and its continuation after November 22, 2022.

«Today, together with the Minister of National Defense of Türkiye, Hulusi Akar, we discussed the implementation of the Grain Initiative. Almost 7.7 million tons of agricultural products have been exported since its launch, which has stabilized food prices and countered the threat of global hunger.

The participating parties of the Initiative – the UN, Türkiye, and Ukraine – expressed their readiness to continue operating and assured maximum efforts for its successful implementation. There is no doubt that the grain corridor will continue operating after November 22.

I am grateful to UN representatives, in particular United Nations coordinator Amir Abdulla, for the support and to the Ukrainian team working in the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul.

Thank you to the Turkish side and directly to the Minister of National Defense of Türkiye, Hulusi Akar, for practical cooperation», commented Oleksandr Kubrakov, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side has also emphasized the importance of the process of ship inspection being sped up by the Joint Coordination Center. This allows for a significant increase in the volume of grain exports to the countries of Africa, Asia, and Europe and prevents the formation of inspection queues.

It is to be recalled, on July 22 in Istanbul, Ukraine, Türkiye, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres signed the Initiative suggested by the United Nations on the safe transportation of grain and food products from the Ukrainian ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Pivdenny valid until November 22, 2022.

Since its launch World Food Programme has shipped over 150.000 metric tons of wheat to countries facing hunger under the Initiative.
