Ukraine and Syria expand agricultural trade

Сирія

Ukraine and Syria plan to expand cooperation in the agricultural sector, moving from food supplies toward broader trade, technology transfer and seed supplies. The plans were discussed by Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi and Syrian Minister of Agriculture Basil Hafez al-Suwaidan.

One of the areas of cooperation will be support for the recovery of Syria’s agricultural sector. Ukraine is ready to supply specialized seeds adapted to Syria’s climatic conditions, share modern agricultural technologies, and participate in joint research and trials.

The two countries also intend to develop bilateral trade in agricultural products. Ukraine stressed that restoring safe navigation and stable maritime logistics will be an important condition for expanding trade with Syria.

Ukraine is already supplying food to Syria under the Food from Ukraine program. A total of 15,662 tons of wheat flour has been delivered to the country. The program is expected to expand to include the transfer of technologies, knowledge and practical solutions for agricultural production.

Ukraine and Syria are also preparing an official visit by a Ukrainian delegation, during which the two sides plan to sign a memorandum on agricultural cooperation. The document is expected to set out the main areas of long-term partnership between the two countries.
