Ukraine and Moldova will resume traffic by rail, which will connect the ports of 3 countries
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Andriy Spinu and the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov signed a memorandum, which envisages the resumption of traffic from the railway from Berezino, Ukraine, to Bessarabka, Moldova.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova.
Thus, 25 years later, Moldova will be able to export and import goods through the port of Izmail, located on the Danube, reducing congestion in the port of Reni. Ukraine will also be able to export goods to Moldova, Romania and the EU through this section of the railway line.
“Bessarabia is a part of an international logistics hub, which will provide communication between the ports of Pivdennyi, Odesa, Chornomorsk, Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky, Izmail, Reni, Giurgiulești, Galați, Brăila and Constanta. Thus, port complexes will become more competitive, and beneficiaries of port services will have a more diversified offer”, the statement said.
According to the memorandum, Moldova and Ukraine intend to rebuild this 23-kilometer section of the railway, which was opened in 1997, by the autumn. Most of it is located in Ukraine and only 1.2 km – in Moldova.
