On February 1, the delegation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine met with the delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The parties discussed the state, problems, the most relevant areas of cooperation and the possibility of Japanese support for the agricultural sector of Ukraine.

Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Markiyan Dmytrasevich and specialists of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy took part in the event. On behalf of JICA, the Director General of the Middle East and Europe Department, Hideki Matsunaga, as well as the Senior Director of the Ukraine Support Office of the Middle East and Europe Department, Toru Kobayakawa, were present. FAO was represented at the event by Mykhailo Malkov, Coordinator of Development Programs of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Ukraine.

The meeting participants discussed further steps to support Ukrainian agricultural producers in providing seeds. The supply of alternative energy sources to ensure the work of the Ukrainian agricultural industry was also the subject of a detailed discussion.
“We are grateful to the Japanese government for supporting Ukraine. This applies, in particular, to the provision of equipment for temporary storage of grain (sleeves), which helped our farmers in solving problems of shortage of grain storages. We appreciate all the help provided,” said Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Markiyan Dmytrasevich.

During the meeting, the parties also outlined further concrete steps that will deepen cooperation between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, JICA and FAO in the agricultural direction. In particular, they discussed the possibility of a visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Japan for the purpose of exchanging experience.

“Despite the great distance between our countries, we feel the support of the Government of Japan and the closeness of our spirit,” summed up Markiyan Dmytrasevich.
