UAE to build new port to bypass the Strait of Hormuz
The United Arab Emirates plans to build a new seaport on the country’s eastern coast to reduce its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Financial Times, the new logistics route will allow containers to be imported and exported without passing through the strait, after which cargo will be transported by road and rail to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and neighboring countries.
The project has gained urgency following the sharp escalation around the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, after Iran closed the strait, activity at Jebel Ali, the region’s largest container port, fell by 90–95%. The new port is expected to be completed in about 18 months, helping strengthen the UAE’s logistics network and reduce risks to the country’s foreign trade.
