Türkiye–Malaysia trade volume rises nearly 15% in first 9 months
Türkiye and Malaysia continue expanding cooperation across trade, tourism, investment and defense, with bilateral trade approaching $4 billion in the first nine months of 2025, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and the Trade Ministry.
Bilateral trade reached $3.96 billion between January and September, marking a 14.8% increase from $3.45 billion in the same period last year.
Total trade stood at $4.96 billion in 2024.
Türkiye’s exports to Malaysia grew sharply, rising 59% year-on-year to $460.2 million, compared with $290.2 million in the same period of the previous year.
Malaysia Palm Oil Council CEO Belvinder Sron said Türkiye’s strategic location, population and market dynamics make it an important trade partner.
He noted that Malaysia’s product portfolio is well-positioned to support Türkiye’s expanding manufacturing sector and its exports to neighboring markets, creating new cooperation opportunities.
“Trade relations between Türkiye and Malaysia continue to grow,” Sron said.
Sron highlighted palm and palm oil derivatives as major export items, saying Türkiye imports around 1 million tons annually.
Much of this supply is used in value-added processing and manufacturing, with finished products later exported to surrounding countries.
He said Türkiye’s role in re-export markets allows Malaysian palm oil to contribute to a wider industrial ecosystem.
Malaysia, the world’s second-largest palm oil producer with 24% of global supply, earned $24 billion from palm oil exports last year.
More than 450,000 small farmers rely on the sector, with crude palm oil output reaching 19.3 million tons.
Sron added that population growth and rising tourism in Türkiye are expected to further strengthen bilateral trade in the coming years.
