Turkey prepares new measures to protect Black Sea shipping
Turkey has begun implementing new measures aimed at ensuring the safety of shipping in the Black Sea amid attacks on commercial vessels.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced the move, according to Yeni Şafak.
He said the war is increasingly spreading into the Black Sea and is now directly affecting civilian commercial vessels. Ships flying the Turkish flag or owned by Turkish companies have also been affected by the attacks, along with Turkish citizens.
“We have several measures that we have also reported to our president. We are implementing them,” Fidan said.
Details of the measures have not yet been disclosed.
At the same time, Turkey is discussing the establishment of two separate safe shipping routes in the Black Sea for vessels sailing to Ukraine and Russia. According to the report, both sides could commit not to attack vessels travelling along designated routes. The previous Black Sea grain corridor mechanism is being considered as a possible model.
