Turkey is actively increasing imports of sunflower oil and meal
According to Oil World, in February, Turkey increased imports of sunflower oil from 69 to 128 thsd tonnes, sunflower meal from 148 to a record 218 thsd tonnes, and sunflower seeds from 11 to 25 thsd tonnes compared to January.
The largest suppliers of sunflower oil in February were Ukraine (78 thsd tonnes), Russia (39 thsd tonnes) and Romania (6 thsd tonnes), and sunflower meal – Russia (108 thsd tonnes), Ukraine (101 thsd tonnes), Romania (6 thsd tonnes) and Bulgaria (3 thsd tonnes).
Experts note that since January, Turkey has significantly increased the imports of sunflower oil and meal to compensate for the reduction of its own processing.
In general, in September-February of 2023/24 MY Turkey decreased the imports of sunflower seeds from 534 thsd tonnes to 134 thsd tonnes, sunflower oil – from 588 thsd tonnes to 491 thsd tonnes, while increased the purchases of sunflower meal from 422 thsd tonnes to 573 thsd tonnes.
At the same time, due to significant domestic reserves, the export of sunflower oil in February increased from 49 to 67 thousand tons compared to January, of which 15 thousand tons were shipped to Ethiopia, 9 thousand tons – to other African countries, and the rest – to Lebanon, Syria and Saudi Arabia.
The total exports of sunflower oil in 2023/24 MY already amounted to 379 thsd tonnes, compared to 351 thsd tonnes in the same period of 2022/23 MY.
