Tunisia’s state grains agency (ODC) purchased about 100 thsd tons of soft wheat in an international tender held on July 21. This exceeded the initial purchase volume of 75 thsd tons. Grain shipment is scheduled between August 10 and September 9, depending on the country of origin.

The lowest purchase price was $270/t C&F, while the other consignments were bought at significantly higher prices of up to $293.69/t C&F. This was above the level of the previous tender on June 4, when Tunisia purchased 75 thsd tons of wheat at $268.16/t C&F. Traders attributed the price increase to higher risks in the Black Sea region following attacks on port infrastructure and shipping.

The Tunisian side also stressed that suppliers of Black Sea-origin wheat will not be allowed to invoke force majeure due to the war in Ukraine and must fully guarantee contract performance or arrange grain supplies from other regions.

Purchases under the tender:

Grainstar — 25 thsd tons at $270.00/t C&F
Amber — 25 thsd tons at $293.69/t C&F
Casillo — 25 thsd tons at $289.59/t C&F
Casillo — 25 thsd tons at $279.49/t C&F
