Trump threatens 200% tariff on European alcohol in response to EU tax on whiskey
US President Donald Trump has announced the possible introduction of 200% tariffs on wine, champagne and spirits from the EU in response to the 50% tariff that the European Union has imposed on American whiskey. He wrote about this on the social network Truth.
“The European Union, one of the most aggressive and abusive tax and tariff bodies in the world, created solely to take advantage of the United States, has just imposed a stiff 50% tariff on whiskey. If this tariff is not immediately repealed, the United States will soon impose a 200% tariff on all wine, champagne and spirits from France and other EU countries,” Trump wrote.
According to him, such actions will contribute to the development of the American wine business. Previously, the United States has already imposed increased tariffs on European goods due to trade disputes with Brussels.
