Trump said Coca-Cola changed the recipe of its drink at his request
The company has been using high-fructose corn syrup for many years to make the drink, but Trump has called for the use of American cane sugar instead.
US President Donald Trump said that Coca-Cola changed the recipe of its drink at his request. He reported this on his social network X.
“I have spoken with Coca-Cola about using REAL cane sugar in Coca-Cola in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. I would like to thank all the leaders of Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move on their part – you will see. It is simply better!” – wrote the president.
It should be noted that the company currently uses high-fructose corn syrup to make the drink.
As noted by the New York Times, the company began using corn syrup in Coca-Cola in 1980, mixing it with sugar to help cover the costs associated with rising sugar prices.
Previously, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. partly blamed corn syrup for the nation’s obesity epidemic.
