Trump raises tariffs on Canadian goods by another 10%
US President Donald Trump has announced an additional 10% tariff increase on Canadian goods. He announced this on Saturday, October 25, on the social network Truth Social.
Trump said that Canada was “caught red-handed” by placing a “fake ad about Ronald Reagan’s speech on tariffs.”
“Ronald Reagan LOVED tariffs for national security and economic reasons, but Canada said that’s not the case! Their ad should have been taken down immediately, but they allowed it to air last night during the World Series knowing it was a SCAM. Because of their gross misrepresentation and hostile actions, I am raising tariffs on Canada by 10% above what they are currently paying,” he wrote.
On October 23, Donald Trump announced that the United States would immediately suspend all trade negotiations with Canada.
The reason for this, he said, was a commercial that used a fragment of a speech by former US President Ronald Reagan without permission from the Reagan Foundation.
As Trump explained to Truth Social, the commercial, which he claimed was funded by the government of the Canadian province of Ontario, contained a montage of Reagan’s 1987 speech, where he spoke about free trade and import tariffs. According to the American president, it cost $75,000.
