Transit of Ukrainian grain through Romania has become a key export destination
After Russia resumed its blockade of the Black Sea ports, the transit corridor through the Danube ports became the key for Ukraine’s grain exports. And Romania has become an important link in this grain corridor and in the “routes of solidarity.”
This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a joint meeting of the governments of Ukraine and Romania yesterday, October 18, the Communications Department of the CMU Secretariat reported.
“Currently, 60% of our grain exports transit through Romanian territory. And in terms of bilateral trade, Romania is the third largest market for Ukraine. And this is not the limit,” said Denys Shmyhal.
He said that the agreement signed in August this year between the governments of the two countries to strengthen cooperation in ensuring reliable transit is being implemented.
“By expanding the transit corridor in the Ukraine-Moldova-Romania triangle, we can double our export opportunities in this direction,” the Prime Minister said.
He also noted significant progress in the development of border infrastructure between Ukraine and Romania. New border crossing points Dyakivtsi – Rakovets and Krasnoilsk – Vicovu de Sus were opened, and four more are planned to be opened in Bukovyna and Zakarpattia.
As a reminder, Ukraine and Romania have agreed to set up 5 anchorages for raid grain transshipment.
