The US is expanding its presence in Thailand’s soybean market

The US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and Feed Ingredients Trading Business Group (FIT), part of Thailand’s CP Group, have signed a memorandum of understanding on sustainability cooperation. The partnership aims to expand Thailand’s access to US soybeans and soybean products for the country’s feed and livestock industries.

Under the partnership, the parties plan to promote knowledge exchange, training programs and joint research. One of the objectives is to diversify sources of protein-rich feed ingredients for Thailand’s feed industry.

Thailand’s demand for soybeans and soybean products continues to grow. According to the country’s Ministry of Commerce, imports reached about 4.27 mln tons in January-July 2026, up 3.49% from the same period last year. Soybean meal imports increased by 7.83% to 1.64 mln tons.

Brazil remains Thailand’s largest supplier of soybeans and soybean products. In the first seven months of 2026, Brazil shipped about 3.88 mln tons to the Thai market, while the US supplied 274.3 thsd tons. US suppliers therefore still lag significantly behind Brazil in terms of volumes.

The new partnership could help expand the presence of US soybeans in Thailand and diversify the country’s imports. Growth in the feed and livestock industries is supporting demand for soybean meal and other protein-rich feed ingredients, creating additional opportunities for suppliers.
