GRAMPET Group, a leader in private rail freight transportation in Romania, has announced the completion of construction and the start of testing of the largest transshipment terminal for agricultural products in Europe. The investment amounted to 10 million euros.

This was reported by Forbes Romania.

The terminal is located in Dornesti (Suceava County), on the border with Ukraine.

“Romania plays an important role in the solidarity corridors created by EU member states to facilitate the transportation of goods from Ukraine. After the outbreak of the war, GRAMPET Group’s railway operators made a significant contribution to smoothing traffic and restoring the main corridors on the North-South axis, ensuring the transportation of more than 1.5 million tons of cargo from Ukraine,” said Gruiu Stoica, President of GRAMPET Group.

According to him, the new complex in Dornesti will allow transporting 240 thousand tons of grain per month, thus becoming a strategic point in facilitating the movement of goods to the port of Constanta.

With a maximum design capacity of 3 million tons, the complex is equipped with a wagon loading station (128 m long) and an unloading station (120 m long), which allow loading/unloading 8 wagons at the same time. The equipment is similar to that used at sea and river port terminals, which allows for the transportation of products without loss of quality and with a maximum capacity of 500 tons per hour.

As previously reported, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and ADM have made a joint investment in the plant. Buffett Foundation, together with ADM, has invested in a dry port on the border with Hungary.
