The early grain harvest is drawing to a close in Ukraine — nearly 32 mln tons have been harvested

As of August 25, Ukrainian farmers had harvested 6.76 mln ha of grains and pulses, or 58% of the forecast area. Total new-crop production reached 31.73 mln tons, with an average yield of 4.7 t/ha, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

Harvesting of the main early grains is almost complete. Wheat has been harvested from 97% of the area, producing 24.61 mln tons at an average yield of 4.92 t/ha. Barley production reached 6.33 mln tons from 98% of the area, with an average yield of 4.34 t/ha, while the pea harvest totaled 786.9 thsd tons from 99% of the area.

Odesa region currently leads in total grain production with 4.82 mln tons, followed by Dnipropetrovsk region with 2.63 mln tons and Kirovohrad region with 2.42 mln tons. The highest average grain yields were recorded in Khmelnytskyi region at 7.08 t/ha, Sumy region at 6.01 t/ha and Vinnytsia region at 5.97 t/ha.

The rapeseed harvest is also almost complete. Farmers have harvested 1.32 mln ha, or 99% of the forecast area, producing 3.79 mln tons of rapeseed. The average yield stands at 2.86 t/ha.

Meanwhile, farmers are moving on to later crops. Millet has been harvested from 9% of the area, yielding 7.84 thsd tons at 2.18 t/ha. Buckwheat harvesting has also started in several regions, with the first 0.9 thsd tons collected at an average yield of 1.38 t/ha.
