The capacity for lorries at the border with Romania is to be doubled

The first stage of the freight terminal modernization at the Porubne–Siret border crossing between Ukraine and Romania has been completed. The project is expected to speed up freight traffic and increase the capacity of one of the key road routes connecting Ukraine with Romania.

The first stage included the construction of new concrete pavement, drainage and wastewater treatment systems, as well as the installation of a border guard pavilion, radiation monitoring equipment and outdoor lighting.

The next stage will include the installation of modern customs and border control equipment and additional infrastructure. Once the modernization is completed, four additional lanes for trucks will become available at the crossing.

After similar works are completed on the Romanian side, the capacity of the Porubne–Siret crossing could roughly double to around 150 export trucks per day. This is expected to make cross-border freight traffic faster and more predictable.

The modernization project is being implemented with EU support under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The project is co-financed on a 50/50 basis by the EU and Ukraine’s state budget.
