Thanks to the work of the grain corridor, Ukraine managed to export more than 10 million tons of agricultural products. Of them, 3 million tons are wheat and more than 4 million tons are corn. Sunflower oil and rapeseed are also exported. In total, more than 400 ships were involved. Taras Vysotskyi, the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, said this on the air of the “Edynі Novyni” informational marathon.

“The report of September and October showed that the stable operation of the corridor allows exporting of 6-7 million tons of products per month. If such volumes are realized, it will be enough for Ukrainian producers, as well as to ensure international food security,” said Taras Vysotskyi.

He added that sunflower harvesting is now almost complete. They expect to collect about 10 million tons. Corn harvesting is also underway. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, ¼ of the area was threshed. By the end of the year, they expect to collect 22-23 million tons of corn.

Sowing of winter crops continues, which has already been sown on 4 ml ha, which is almost 40% less than last year.

“In the current conditions, this is a good indicator. From 4 million hectares, it is possible to harvest at least twice as much grain as is needed to ensure domestic food security. We believe in the Armed Forces and we hope that the sown areas will be compensated in the spring,” said the First Deputy Minister.

He also assured us that there is no shortage of basic food products in Ukraine. The government responds to market fluctuations and takes appropriate measures.

“There is no shortage of the basic set of products. Sometimes there is an imbalance in prices, as was the case with buckwheat. But more areas were sown and a new crop was harvested – prices fell. Also, now there is an imbalance in the price of eggs, caused by several factors (increased demand, reduction in the number of chickens and egg production, etc.). Currently, wholesale prices have decreased by 10%. And for the restoration of the stock of laying hens, the price will return to an economically justified one,” Vysotsky assured.

He added that an important factor that affected the harvest this year, in addition to the war, was weather conditions and insufficient rainfall. The Ministry of Agriculture is already working on restoring the irrigation system.
