Syrian government officials arrive in Ukraine to discuss food supplies
An official delegation of government officials from Syria has arrived in Ukraine. This was announced by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga at the opening of the IV International Food Security Summit “Food from Ukraine”. He noted that the delegation’s visit emphasizes the importance of cooperation in the field of supplying food to those who need it most.
Sybiga recalled that he became the first European foreign minister to visit Syria after the overthrow of the Bashar Assad regime. He emphasized that Ukraine has already supplied food to Syria with the participation of Great Britain, Germany, Norway and international organizations and plans to continue these supplies in the future.
According to the minister, such cooperation is part of Ukraine’s principled approach to humanitarian support, as well as strengthening diplomatic relations. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after talks in New York with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, announced that Ukraine and Syria have signed a Joint Communiqué on the restoration of diplomatic relations.
Earlier, in December 2024, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitaliy Koval, stated that Ukraine was ready to supply food to Syria after the regime change. Currently, the country continues to actively develop this direction, directing food products to humanitarian programs and ensuring stable supplies.
