Switzerland to allocate CHF 3 mln for temporary storage of Ukrainian grain

Switzerland will allocate CHF 3 mln to support temporary storage of Ukrainian grain under an FAO project. The assistance is intended to expand storage capacity amid constraints on seaborne exports.

According to the Ukrainian side, up to 30 mln tons of agricultural products remain at risk due to limited maritime export capacity. Additional temporary storage should help farmers preserve harvested crops until export routes become more stable.

The FAO project includes support for temporary grain storage, including storage solutions for farmers. Producers’ demand for grain sleeves has already been collected through Ukraine’s State Agrarian Register, which is also proposed as a tool for targeted distribution of assistance.

For small farmers, for whom grain sleeves may not be practical due to limited production volumes, the project also provides voucher support to help prepare for the next production season.

Separately, Switzerland plans to allocate another CHF 6 mln over the next three years to support Ukraine’s organic sector. A CHF 30 mln program is also being prepared to support Ukrainian businesses, including companies in the agriculture and food industries.
