Sugar exports from Ukraine in MY 2024/25 decreased by 16%
During the 2024/25 marketing year, Ukraine exported 580 thousand tons of sugar, which is 32% of the country’s production. The export figure is 16% less than in the previous marketing year, when the country sent 692 thousand tons to foreign markets.
This was reported by the press service of the Ukrsugar Association.
Of the total exports in 2024/25, 17% were sent to the EU countries, while 83% were sent to the world market (in 2023/2024, the ratio was 77% to the EU, 23% to the world market).
The main importing countries of Ukrainian sugar in 2024/25 were:
- EU – 17%;
- Turkey – 14%;
- Libya – 10%;
- North Macedonia – 8%;
- Lebanon – 5%;
- Somalia – 5%.
Among the EU countries, the main buyer of Ukrainian sugar was Bulgaria, where 59% of the total volume went.
Ukrainian farmers have already started harvesting sugar beet for processing in the 2025/26 season. The specified areas for harvesting are 198 thousand hectares. The forecast for sugar production is 1.5 million tons of sugar.
