Spain strengthens its global leadership in eggplant production
Last year, in 2023, 458.13 million kg of eggplants were sold in the world, of which Spain exported more than a third, a total of 163.27 million kg.

According to the publication, in 2023, Spain maintained its leading position in global eggplant exports, further strengthening this advantage by exporting 35.64% of all eggplants exported worldwide last year.
Mexico exported 17.92% of the total with 82.12 million kg.
The Netherlands ranked third among eggplant exporters with 54.76 million kg. Turkey is on the fourth place with 31.22 mln kg, the USA exported 24.09 mln kg.
During 2023, Spain received the largest income from eggplant exports – 205.99 million euros out of 562.27 million euros, which make up the total volume of world eggplant exports.
Out of the five largest eggplant exporting countries in the world, the Netherlands received the best price for this vegetable in 2023 – 1.68 euros/kg. This is followed by the United States with an average price of exported eggplant of 1.44 euros/kg, Spain ranks third with an average price of 1.26 euros/kg. Mexico sold eggplants for 1 euro/kg, and Turkey – for 0.62 euro/kg.
The largest consumer of Spanish eggplants was France with 163.27 million kg, Germany consumed 38.53 million kg, Italy – 25.69 million kg.
