Global vegetable oil exports are forecast to rise by around 2% in 2026/27 and reach a record 141 mln tons. According to USDA, rapeseed oil and sunflower oil will be the main drivers of growth, supported by higher oilseed supplies and firm demand.

Rapeseed oil exports are projected to increase by around 8%, while sunflower oil shipments could rise by as much as 15%. USDA expects global rapeseed production in 2026/27 to approach 100 mln tons, while sunflower seed output is forecast at 63.7 mln tons.

Larger crops are expected to support stronger crushing activity. Global oilseed crush is forecast at 549.8 mln tons, up 22.6 mln tons from the previous season, while total oilseed production could reach a record 718.1 mln tons.

Trade trends will differ across the major vegetable oils. Palm oil exports are expected to decline by around 2%, while soybean oil shipments are forecast to increase by only 1%. Global palm oil production is projected at 81.1 mln tons, compared with 75.1 mln tons for soybean oil.

Additional rapeseed supplies are expected from Canada, Russia, Ukraine and Australia, while sunflower seed production is also set to increase on larger area and improved yields. As a result, competition among vegetable oils in food, industrial and biofuel markets could intensify.
