Soybeans increase their share in oilseed production in Ukraine

The production of seeds of the main types of oilseeds in Ukraine is preliminarily estimated at 21.7 mln tons, which will be 94% of the previous season’s figure, which Ukroliyaprom estimates at 23.1 million tons. This forecast was made by the association as of December 1.
According to experts, this season soybean production is expected to increase, while sunflower and rapeseed harvests will decrease. Thus, the association estimates the soybean harvest in the current season at 6.1 mln tons, which will be 28% more than last year (4.8 mln tons according to Ukroliyaprom).
This increase will be due to a significant increase in the harvested area – by 46.6%, to 2.66 million hectares, while the oilseed yield decreased by 11.2%, to 2.3 t/ha.
The sunseed production in the current season is estimated at 12 mln tonnes, down from 13.9 mln tonnes in MY 2023/24 (-14%). The oilseed yield preliminarily decreased by 7.8% to 22.6 centners per hectare, the harvested area – by 5.4% to 5.3 mln ha.
As for rapeseed, Ukroliyaprom estimates its harvest at 3.6 million tons against 4.4 million tons in the previous season, which was harvested from almost 1.26 million hectares (-11.2%) with a yield of 28.4 c/ha (-2.7%).
“We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the official information on grain and oilseeds harvesting in Ukraine, in terms of possible sunflower seed production, has discrepancies with the estimates of various market experts. In particular, with the area of 5.004 mln hectares and yield of 2.1 t/ha, the official production of sunflower seeds will reach 10.5-11.0 mln tons, which is significantly different from various expert estimates. Such discrepancies are repeated almost every year. According to the results of the marketing year, based on the actual exports of oil, in particular sunflower oil, we can confirm much higher than official production of oilseeds (most of all, sunflower),” the association emphasized.
Further development of the grain sector in the Black Sea and Danube region will be discussed at the 23 International Conference BLACK SEA GRAIN.KYIV on April 24 in Kyiv.
