Soybean sowing rates remain high in the US
Soybean sowing rates in the US are significantly ahead of both the average and last year’s levels, according to Zerno On-Line, citing the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
As of May 3, US farmers had planted 33% of their planned soybean acreage (28% as of the same date last year and 23% on average over the past five years).
Corn has been planted at 38% of its planned acreage (38% and 34%, respectively), and spring wheat at 32% (42% and 35%).
Winter wheat crop conditions remain worse than usual for this time of year. The share of wheat crops in excellent and good condition increased to 31% last week, up 1 percentage point from April 26. The share of crops in poor and very poor condition also increased, by 2 percentage points. up to 36%. A year ago, 51% of crops were in excellent and good condition, 18% were in poor and very poor condition.
