Sowing of spring crops in Ukraine slowed down due to unfavorable weather conditions
Almost all over the country, agricultural companies have already started soil preparation and sowing of early spring crops. At the same time, the slow pace of agricultural work over the past week was affected by unfavorable weather conditions.
The decisive factors behind this delay are soil temperature, moisture and the ability to get out into the field.
According to scientists at the Institute of Agriculture of the Carpathian Region of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences, sowing should be done when the soil temperature at the depth of seed placement is 2°C, although under such conditions seed germination will be slow.
Higher germination is observed at soil temperatures of 5-6°C. The optimum temperature for the emergence of friendly seedlings is 15-17°C. At a soil temperature of 5°C, seedlings appear in 20 days, 8°C – in 13 days, 10°C – in 9 days, and 15°C – in 7 days.
