Sowing in Ukraine crossed the equator

As of May 2, 2025, farmers across all regions of Ukraine have sown 3.25 mln ha of spring grain and pulses crops.
The largest share of sown areas is attributed to corn – 1,919.3 thsd ha, barley – 715.2 thsd ha, spring wheat – 207.9 thsd ha, peas – 205.7 thsd ha, and oats – 156 thsd ha. Buckwheat has been sown on 7 thsd ha, and millet on 6 thsd ha.
Leading regions by sowing pace:

Poltava Oblast: 429.6 thsd ha (wheat – 4.5 thsd ha, barley – 69.1 thsd ha, peas – 9.6 thsd ha, oats – 3.1 thsd ha, corn – 343.1 thsd ha);

Kirovohrad Oblast: 300.5 thsd ha (wheat – 3 thsd ha, barley – 35.4 thsd ha, peas – 18.7 thsd ha, oats – 0.5 thsd ha, corn – 238.3 thsd ha);

Kyiv Oblast: 241.6 thsd ha (wheat – 25 thsd ha, barley – 40.4 thsd ha, peas – 4.5 thsd ha, oats – 5 thsd ha, corn – 163 thsd ha);

Sumy Oblast: 225.8 thsd ha (wheat – 21.5 thsd ha, barley – 18.2 thsd ha, peas – 5.8 thsd ha, oats – 9.8 thsd ha, corn – 168.7 thsd ha);

Cherkasy Oblast: 217.3 thsd ha (wheat – 2 thsd ha, barley – 30.2 thsd ha, peas – 5 thsd ha, oats – 0.8 thsd ha, corn – 179.1 thsd ha).
Technical crops have been sown on an area of 3,432 thsd ha, including:

sunflower – 2,364.8 thsd ha;

soybeans – 729.2 thsd ha;

sugar beets – 217.3 thsd ha.
In total, approximately 5.7 mln ha of spring grain and pulses crops are planned to be sown in 2025, matching the level of 2024. The key feature of the new season will be an increase in the area under spring wheat to 227.5 thsd ha. These changes in the crop structure align with stable demand for wheat from processing enterprises and exporters.
