Sowing campaign in Ukraine enters final stage despite challenges
Ukrainian farmers have sown grain and leguminous crops across 4.97 mln ha as of May 19, which accounts for 83% of the projected area.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
Farmers have planted:
- spring wheat — 184.7 thsd ha;
- spring barley — 709.0 thsd ha;
- peas — 256.7 thsd ha;
- oats — 136.7 thsd ha;
- maize — 3.54 mln ha;
- millet — 19.6 thsd ha;
- buckwheat — 17.92 thsd ha.
At the same time, sugar beet has been sown on 187.9 thsd ha (95% of the forecast), sunflower on 3.73 mln ha (75%), and soybeans on 1.34 mln ha (65%).
Farmers are currently intensifying efforts to complete the sowing campaign within optimal agronomic timeframes. However, in some regions, a noticeable lag compared to previous years is still observed, driven by weather conditions and uneven fieldwork progress.
