South Africa to harvest record corn crop
South Africa’s National Crop Estimation Committee (CEC) has raised its forecast for commercial maize production in South Africa in 2025 from 16.5 million tonnes to a record 16.8 million tonnes, up 2% from last year.
The country is currently harvesting the new crop, which will be completed in June. According to the CEC, white maize production will total 9.1 million tonnes, while yellow maize production will reach 7.8 million tonnes. The average maize yield is estimated at 62.0 centners per hectare.
Wheat sowing will begin in May in South Africa. According to the CEC, the area under wheat will be reduced to 486,400 hectares, a 6% decrease compared to last year.
