Slight reduction in buckwheat acreage in Ukraine is predicted
The projected area of buckwheat in Ukraine in 2025 will amount to 86.8 thsd ha, which will be 2.3 thsd ha less than last year, and 60.8 thsd ha less than in 2023, when the acreage under this crop was the largest in the last eight years.
This is reported by AgroTimes with reference to the data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the State Statistics Service.
In general, over the past eight years, the area under buckwheat was as follows:
- 2016 – 149.2 thsd ha;
- 2017 – 183.8 thsd ha;
- 2018 – 108.4 thsd ha;
- 2019 – 67.5 thsd ha;
- 2020 – 78.9 thsd ha;
- 2021 – 84 thsd ha;
- 2022 – 121.3 thsd ha;
- 2023 – 147.6 thsd ha;
- 2024 – 89.1 thsd ha;
- 2025 – 86.8 thsd ha according to the forecast.
As a reminder, as of the end of 2024, Ukraine threshed buckwheat from 98.5% of the area and harvested 131.7 thsd tons at 1.5 t/ha.
