Shipping on the Sulina Canal suspended due to bad weather
Shipping on the Sulina Canal on the Danube, one of the key routes to Ukrainian river ports, has been suspended due to adverse weather conditions. According to shipping company Avalon, navigation was halted on Saturday and is not expected to resume before October 2.
The Danube route has become increasingly important for Ukrainian exports amid disruptions at Black Sea ports. Part of the country’s agricultural cargo has been rerouted through river ports and the Sulina Canal.
Low water levels on the Danube remain an additional risk. This could create problems for vessels that have already been fixed or loaded and are waiting to depart from Ukrainian ports.
A prolonged navigation halt could further limit the capacity of the Danube export route and increase delays for Ukrainian agricultural shipments in early October.
