Serbia increases wheat and corn production in 2026

Serbia’s wheat production rose by 7.7% y/y in 2026 to 4 mln tons, according to preliminary data from the country’s statistical office as of September 5.

The increase was driven by a larger harvested area, which expanded to 652.9 thsd ha from 607.1 thsd ha a year earlier. Average wheat yield remained unchanged at 6.1 t/ha.

Compared with the 2016–2025 average, this year’s wheat output was 31.8% higher, indicating a strong result for the crop in the current season.

Corn production in 2026 is forecast at 4.8 mln tons, up 12% y/y. The harvested area is expected to decline to 938.2 thsd ha from 975.4 thsd ha, while yields are projected to rise to 5.1 t/ha from 4.4 t/ha.

Despite the year-on-year recovery, corn output is still expected to remain 20.5% below the 2016–2025 average. Final crop data for Serbia are due to be published in March 2027.
