Saudi Arabia buys 985 thsd tons of wheat tender with delivery limited to Red Sea ports
On April 27, Saudi Arabia’s grain purchasing agency — General Food Security Authority (GFSA) — purchased 985,000 metric tons of wheat in an international tender, exceeding the originally announced volume of 710,000 tons. Shipments are scheduled for June–August 2026.
Deliveries were restricted exclusively to Red Sea ports to avoid routing through the Strait of Hormuz, where logistical risks remain elevated. The purchase concerned hard wheat with 12.5% protein content, with potential supply origins including the EU, the Black Sea region, North and South America, and Australia.
According to traders’ estimates, the main suppliers are expected to be Black Sea countries, including Ukraine, Romania, and Russia, along with some volumes from Western Europe for later delivery periods. Contract prices ranged between $273 and $285 per ton on a C&F basis.
