Saudi Arabia consolidates grain business to strengthen food security
The Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC) has transferred 100% ownership of National Grain Company (NGC) to the National Grain Supply Company (SABIL). The restructuring aims to integrate grain sourcing, storage and distribution to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s food security.
The transfer followed SALIC’s acquisition of the remaining 50% stake in NGC, giving it full ownership of the company. The transaction was announced at a ceremony held at Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture headquarters in Riyadh.
The integration will combine SABIL’s expertise in managing strategic wheat reserves and its extensive network of silos and storage facilities with NGC’s international sourcing capabilities in grain and feed inputs. The move is expected to broaden SABIL’s commodity portfolio, improve logistics efficiency and strengthen domestic supply.
The restructuring is part of SALIC’s broader strategy to integrate its domestic and international agricultural assets. In July 2026, the company announced the integration of Continental Farmers Group into Olam Agri to strengthen its international agricultural sourcing capabilities.
NGC will continue operating as a separate legal entity wholly owned by SABIL. The consolidation supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to strengthen food security, develop strategic sectors and improve the resilience of agricultural supply chains.
