Russia’s “handful of donations” will not replace the “grain deal” it broke – Guterres
“Russia’s “handful of donations” will not completely eliminate the serious consequences of the termination of the grain deal. Such a decision by the Russian Federation will lead to a large-scale increase in prices in many countries.
This was stated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. According to him, the termination of the grain deal will have a negative impact on the global economy.
“It is obvious that if millions and millions of tons of grain are removed from the market, it will lead to higher prices. So it is not with a handful of donations from some countries that we will correct this dramatic impact that affects everyone everywhere,” he said.
Guterres also noted that any increase in the cost of food will now have a negative impact on everyone, including developing countries and vulnerable people in middle-income countries as well as in developed countries.
As a reminder, Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to provide tens of thousands of tons of grain as aid to African leaders within a few months, despite the Western sanctions imposed, which he claims are creating difficulties for grain and fertilizer exports.
