On the night of June 6, the Russian occupiers blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. The extent of the damage, water velocity, and possible areas of flooding are being determined.

Units of the National Police and the State Emergency Service of Kherson Oblast have been deployed to warn and evacuate civilians from potential flood zones on the right bank of the Dnipro River, namely the villages of Mykolaivka, Olhivka, Lovo, Tyahynka, Ponyativka, Ivanivka, Tokarivka, Ponyativka, Prydniprovske, Sadove, and partially the city of Kherson – Korabel Island.

Natalia Humeniuk, a spokeswoman for the Southern Defense Forces Command, told United News that the Russians were tired of waiting for the Ukrainian army to launch a counteroffensive, so they decided to commit another war crime – blowing up the hydroelectric power plant.

In addition, the occupiers have already realized what they have done, so they are evacuating themselves. The left bank of the Dnipro will be the first to suffer because it is geographically lower.

Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, said that the water would reach a critical level in 5 hours. He appealed to residents of the right bank of the region to immediately gather the most necessary things and documents and wait for evacuation buses.

As for the residents of the left (occupied) bank of the Kherson region, Oleksandr Prokudin asked them to take care of their own safety and immediately leave the areas of possible flooding.

The Kherson City Council emphasized that everyone in the danger zone should

turn off all electrical appliances
take documents and essentials
take care of family and pets
follow the instructions of rescuers and police officers

The city council also notes that the Russian enemy is trying to spread disinformation to absolve itself of responsibility for the terrorist attack.

According to Natalia Gumenyuk, the explosion of the hydroelectric dam affects the operation of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP, but it is too early to draw any conclusions.

– “Experts are now working to create conditions to avoid the next man-made disaster,” emphasized Natalia Humeniuk.

Back in October 2022, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov said that if the Russians blow up the Kakhovka HPP, the issue of supplying Crimea will be closed for at least the next 5 years.
