Russian attacks are creating additional risks for storing Ukraine’s harvest. Stationary grain elevators, which hold most of the country’s agricultural produce, are particularly vulnerable. Attacks on infrastructure are forcing the agricultural sector to consider potential losses and seek alternative grain storage solutions.

This was reported by Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky. According to him, Ukraine generally has sufficient storage capacity, including both permanent facilities and temporary storage solutions such as grain storage bags. Existing infrastructure makes it possible to preserve most agricultural products in proper condition.

At the same time, the minister emphasized that grain elevators have already become targets of Russian attacks, making security a serious challenge for the agricultural sector. Nevertheless, the risk of a significant share of this year’s harvest being spoiled is currently considered low.

Due to logistical difficulties, some of the corn may not be harvested until spring. This is linked to limited export capacity and the need to store grain until export conditions improve. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy notes that the main challenge for farmers is not so much a lack of storage facilities as the threat of damage to infrastructure caused by Russian attacks.
