Russia. Weather conditions were good and fair for growing winter grains
Weather conditions. Cold weather was seen in the Northwestern, Central and Volga federal districts in early November, when the average daily air temperature was 2-5°С below normal. On November 1-3, the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts were exposed to much colder weather than usual. It was mostly much warmer than usual in Western Siberia on November 1-10. The average daily air temperature was 5-9°C above normal.
Moisture supply. The northern half of the territory of the Northwestern, Central and Volga federal districts received precipitation in the form of rain and snow during 5-7 days. At the time, its amount totaled 25-50 mm, or one-and-a- half to three times higher than normal for the ten days. Flooded crops are seen in part of the fields. It became much warmer in the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts on November 6-10, with almost no precipitation. The overwhelming majority of West Siberian fields were free of snow during most days on November 1-10. Air temperatures fell almost everywhere on November 9-10, but their level was still too high to pose any threat to winter crops.
Crop condition. Growth of winter crops, which ceased in late October, resumed in most fields on November 4-6 across the Central and Volga federal districts, except for their northernmost areas. The weather conditions were good and fair for growing winter grains. Plants enjoy good moisture supply. In the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts, weather conditions were unfavorable for emergence and initial growth of winter crops in single southern areas of the territory due to a soil moisture deficit. In Western Siberia, the conditions were mainly fair for winter grains to enter the winter season, reports UkrAgroConsult.
