Romania may also ban grain imports from Ukraine: ruling party to appeal to the Government

Romania’s ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) will ask the country’s government to impose a temporary ban on imports of Ukrainian grain. It is reported by Reuters.

“The PSD will ask the ruling coalition to make a political decision to allow the government to issue a decree,” the statement said.

At the same time, the party noted that Romania should continue to support Ukraine by facilitating the transit of agricultural products to other EU countries or through the Black Sea trade routes.

As a reminder, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia have also decided to suspend imports of Ukrainian grain. Some other products have also been temporarily banned. For example, Ukraine will not be able to export corn, wine, sugar, fruits and vegetables to Slovakia.

These steps were taken after farmers in a number of EU countries protested against duty-free imports of Ukrainian grain, which led to a decrease in their income. In particular, in Romania, protesters took tractors and other equipment to the streets.
