Romania is increasing wheat exports and strengthening its position in the Black Sea region
Romania continues to strengthen its position in regional wheat trade. As of April 20, the country had exported 6.3 million tonnes of wheat since the start of the 2025/26 season, compared to 4.8 million tonnes for the same period last season.
This volume has already exceeded Romania’s total wheat exports for the entire 2024/25 season, which stood at 5.6 million tonnes. The pace of exports is also significantly ahead of France, which has shipped 4.9 million tonnes since the start of the current season.
High export volumes are supported by a good harvest this season and stable demand from traditional markets, particularly Saudi Arabia and North Africa.
Current price levels also highlight the attractiveness of Romanian grain. This week, a shipment of Romanian wheat with 12.5% protein (coster) was offered at $240/tonne FOB Constanta, making it more competitive than Ukrainian wheat with 11.5% protein.
