Romania. Election results canceled due to candidate who threatened to ban transit of Ukrainian grain

Romania’s Constitutional Court has annulled the results of the first round of the presidential election. This means that the entire electoral process will be restarted in full.
Reportedly, the judges made this decision after an urgent meeting to consider requests to cancel the first round.
The requests cited declassified documents, according to which the campaign of the pro-Russian candidate Calin Georgescu was the result of an organized manipulation outside Romania.
It is noted that a new date and calendar program will be set for the re-election.
As a reminder, the first round of the presidential election in Romania took place on November 24. According to the official results, Kalin Georgescu took the first place, and Elena Lasconi took the second.
Georgescu is a pro-Russian right-wing radical who calls Russia’s war against Ukraine a “conspiracy of American arms manufacturers” and promised to ban further exports of Ukrainian grain through Romania and military aid to Ukraine if elected.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Romania has helped export millions of tons of Ukrainian grain through the port of Constanta.
