Rising global grain prices push Vietnam feed costs higher for second time in a month
Major feed producers in Vietnam are raising prices by $11–15/t from October 1. This is the second increase in less than a month amid rising costs for grain-based feed ingredients.
Cargill is increasing prices for livestock and poultry feed by around $11/t. De Heus is raising prices for most feed products by a similar amount, while piglet feed and concentrates are increasing by around $15/t.
The previous increase came in early September, when most feed products became around $8/t more expensive. Producers have therefore revised prices twice within a short period due to higher raw material costs.
According to FAO data, global grain prices rose 2.2% m/m in August and reached their highest level since May 2024. Corn prices increased by 2.5% amid concerns over US yields, weaker EU crop forecasts and strong demand from the feed industry.
Vietnam imports more than 65% of the raw materials used in feed production, making domestic prices highly sensitive to global commodity markets. Further increases in grain prices could add to production costs for the livestock and poultry sectors.
