Reports emerge of damage to EFKO vegetable oil terminal at Russia’s Port of Taman

During the night of July 30, Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian port of Taman in the Krasnodar region. According to information emerging from various sources, one of the possible targets was EFKO’s deep-water vegetable oil terminal, located in the settlement of Volna near the Port of Taman. Photos and videos published from the Volna area show a large fire. However, there is still no official confirmation of the extent of the damage to the terminal itself.

The Krasnodar regional operational headquarters reported that drone debris fell on the premises of an enterprise near the port, causing a fire and injuring four people, three of whom were hospitalized. Authorities also confirmed a major fire at the Tamanneftegaz oil and gas terminal. Ukrainian sources on social media claim that the EFKO terminal was also hit.

The EFKO terminal is Russia’s only specialized deep-water facility for handling crude vegetable oils. It has an annual throughput capacity of more than 3 million tons, and the company is among Russia’s largest sunflower oil exporters. The terminal serves as a key export hub for loading large volumes of vegetable oils onto seagoing vessels.

If the reported damage to the terminal is confirmed, it could temporarily disrupt vegetable oil transshipment while infrastructure is inspected, fire damage is assessed, and equipment is repaired. Additional risks may include restrictions on vessel calls and higher insurance costs for shipowners. However, it is still too early to assess any long-term impact on Russian vegetable oil exports.
